As you walked down College Street last night you would have seen a gaggle of people lined up for a few blocks at the Mod Club Theatre, this is because Billie Eilish is in town on her sold out tour. Promoting her debut album Don't Smile at Me, the sixteen year old songstress is on a 22 date tour and every single show is sold out. The last time Billie was in town was October and performing another sold out show at The Drake Underground, it's been great to see how much she has grown in the last five months. From dance routines with her brother, hiring a drummer and playing bigger crowds, last night was extraordinary. The show kicked off with Reo Cragun a hip-hop/R&B artist whose work compliments the tones in Billie's music. Along with a DJ, the duo hyped up the crowd for Billie to take the stage. As the hour counted down, the group of people with silver hair, neon clothing and dressed in merchandise that was available for purchase sang along to the music that filled the air. As two men dressed in white jumpsuits wearing a green handkerchief over their mouths faced the crowd with a cash cannon that started off the show. Dressed in her own merchandise, Billie Eilish took the stage to being her set and opened with the hit Bellyache. Midway through the night you could hear the beginnings of Hotline Bling by Drake playing which then cycled into her song party favor. Other songs performed last night included hits COPYCAT, ocean eyes and new singles Six Feet Under and when the party's over. She also took the stage with a ukelele to perform an unreleased single, NEW GIRL. The songstress also took the time to get the crowd to sing Happy Birthday for her mom, with her whole family on tour you could feel all the love and support in the room. Charlotte Cardin reminded us of why she is nominated for two JUNO awards while stopping in Toronto for two sold-out shows on her North American Tour. Her jazzy, soulful and powerful voice brought silence to the venue while everyone was captivated by her songs. With a strong and confidence stage presence and short entertaining monologues between songs, she reminded us why she sold out a majority of her solo tour. The show opened with Ralph, a Toronto native that we have seen before on this blog. With a female vocalist and tunes that remind you of 80's bops, Ralph's ballads demanded attention and encouraged you to dance along to the music. With a cover of Young Hearts Run Free, best known from Romeo and Juliet, the tone was set for the night to include some great music by some great people. Nominated for Breakthrough Artist and Songwriter of the Year for a few of her songs, including her hit Main Girl. Not having even release a full length debut album, Charlotte finds herself nominated in one of the most prestigious categories. Taking the stage, she performed hits such as Kids, and Dirty Dirty, including a cover of Post Malone's Go Flex. She also treated the crowd to unreleased singles, Sous les Jupes and California. Dedicating her hit, Main Girl, to her best friend who was present last night, the venue was filled with love for the artist from her family and friends visiting from Montreal. The night ended off with Faufiles, a french song to demonstrate her abilities as an artist with a sultry voice only accompanied by herself playing the keyboard. Flay visited Toronto on the second leg of her sold-out tour with support from Yungblud. Yungblud, an artist hailing from Manchester, England is a sight to see, just releasing his debut EP in January, he has the poetic lyrics of Alex Turner but also jumps around on stage like Tory Lanez. Starting the night off performing 21st Century Liability and playing massive hit I Love You, Will You Marry Me he started the night off with an absolute bang. After being nominated for two Grammy Awards in January, K. Flay is back on the road and dropped by Toronto for an amazing show. Equipped with her own lighting and a riser on stage, the audience already knew it was going to be amazing. Opening her set with Make Me Fade and Giver, she went on to perform hits High Enough and Blood in the Cut, including a cover of Louis the Child's It's Strange. Moving around the stage and giving it her all, the audience couldn't help but feel the contagious energy and we're engaged the whole night.

Just last month, the pair released their sophomore album Deception Bay which depicts love and relationships and the release from toxic relationships. Milk & Bone's longtime best friends Laurence Lafond-Beaulne and Camille Poliquin create melodies that capture your attention. Songs made by layering synths and pairing vocal cords made it a night to get lost in the music. The stage was decorated with a lit up booth, almost as if there was a DJ behind the boards. Led panels were controlled and moved and changed colours to the beat of the song. See Milk & Bone live at the dates down below!

Audience members generally consisted of teenage girls decked out in camo pants, colourful hoodies and Xanarchy merchandise, which rose to fame as an ironic "anti-xan" movement following the sudden death of emo-rap pioneer Lil Peep.
Fellow Xanarchy member $teven Cannon opened the stage hyping up the crowd with a 30 minute set including "Inxanity" and "Crash The Whip" which both have well over 2 million streams on Spotify, each. By the time Lil Xan joined on stage, the crowd was already going nuts. The rapper performed some of his most popular songs including "Xanarchy," "Been Bout It" and "Slingshot" before doing "Betrayed," twice, as an encore. As a treat for the crowd, Lil Xan also performed a cover of "Beamer Boy" by Lil Peep as a tribute. Climbing the bar stools, side stage, basically anything that will give them a slight upper hand for the chance to touch the hand of either rapper who made sure to engage with their fans throughout the set. |
