2017 was no small feat for The Pick Brothers Band who played their much anticipated hometown show at The Mod Club Theatre on December 22nd alongside fellow Toronto acts Lost Cousins and Midnight Vesta. Initially starting off as just a trio of brothers, Jeremiah, Casey and Gabriel Pick, the band recently expanded to a dynamic seven piece band. Coming off of a successful round of shows with Birds of Bellwoods, the band recently released their tour video (shot by Katherine Kwan) as well as a brand new single, Heart Won't Change, just in time for the holiday season. About The Pick Brothers Band The Pick Brothers Band has been making waves in the Canadian music scene since their beginnings in Toronto’s littlest bars and venues. With subsequent EPs Pink Lemonade and Blue Days, the real brothers have taken their unique blend of alt-soul/rock and roll on multiple national tours, opened for the likes of The Arkells, The Sam Roberts Band, Houndmouth and The Temperance Movement, showcased at regional festivals like NXNE, CMW, Indie Week and QPOP and had their song “Hey Sugar” featured on an internationally syndicated episode of MTV’s Degrassi. In 2017, the group evolved from trio into septet and now features dynamic new members on horns, keyboards and electronics. Follow The Pick Brothers Band

"My heart is beating so fast" and "I can finally feel my toes" are common phrases said by fans in the crowd before Daniel Caesar took the stage. Riding on a high of being nominated for 2 Grammy Awards, Daniel Caesar, the 22-year-old from Oshawa, Ontario took over The Danforth Music Hall for 5 consecutive sold out shows. We had the pleasure of attending the first and the last show, and we can say that they were all equally amazing. Every show featured surprise guests, anywhere from H.E.R, Syd, 6lack, and River Tiber. Snoh Aalegra opened the show and performed songs from her album FEELS. Many who showed up as fans for Daniel Caesar, left as fans of Snoh Aalegra who captured their attention through her entire set. Last night was an inclusive Canadian lineup, including R&B veteran Glenn Lewis who performed "Don't You Forget It" and Alessia Cara who stopped by to sing "Here". With an all white background, wardrobe, and instruments, Daniel made sure that all eyes were on him and all ears were listening. As a man who said "I have so many words in my head right now", he seems humbled by the fact that he sold out 5 consecutive home town shows. He was consistently met with cheers and crowds that sounded more like a choir, singing along to all of his songs. We can't wait to see what he gets up to in the future, there is an inevitable feeling that things are only going to get bigger. Both these artists are put on one post because they share a similar theme, something new. For the first time in our experience there was no photo pit at The Danforth Music Hall, something which was new and exciting. We got to photograph from a new perspective that presented us with some challenges. Jake Bugg is a 23-year-old musician who attracts a crowd that is older than him, you can find many families at his concerts enjoying his mellow tunes. The Barenaked Ladies is the first time that our blog ever featured a concert at Massey Hall, a historic building that lies in Toronto's downtown core which was home to many amazing artists. From the concert archives: The Franklin Electric, from Montreal, visited Toronto to play some new tunes with some fans at The Mod Club Theater. The opening act Ellevator, an experimental pop band from Hamilton, set the tone for the night with mellow songs and some danceable tunes. As seen above, The Franklin Electric played an intimate show and even a few songs with only one microphone. With the release of their second album, Blue Ceilings, the band enchanted the crowd with a matured sound and great beats. Their music is a blend between pop alternative and classical, they introduce the trumpet just to show how well rounded their sound is!
Check out down below for some photos from the show! The Opera House was in for a treat on Saturday as fans bore the cold for a jam packed night. California punk rockers embarked on their Drive North (quite literally) tour promoting their new album of the same name which came out earlier this year. The group, formally known as Emily's Army, consists of Cole Becker, Max Becker, Seb Mueller and Joey Armstrong, son of Grammy award winning Green Day frontman, Billy Joe Armstrong. The boys were supported by Toronto based rock band Goodbye Honolulu, California based punk band The Interrupters, and up and coming punk rockers The Regrettes. While it's impossible to capture all of the moments from that night, here are some of the best snapshots:
The English R&B princess returns to Toronto again after a successful round of shows alongside Kehlani in June. Lines started forming long before the doors even opened outside of Adelaide Hall for the sold out show, where the singer performed an intimate set from her EP Triglogy Time, Change and Ready. Fans, ranging from those who have seen Ella on the SweetSexySavage Tour to ones who have discovered her from her series of short covers on Instagram sang along to "Breakfast In Bed," her newest single "Naked," and a crowd favourite, "She Don't" which features Ty Dolla $ign on the original track.
